Why can’t I see any textures?

First press 6 while the viewport is enabled to enable textured mode.

If you are using one of my rigs that includes textured shaders, you need to make sure you go to File > Set Project and navigate to the root folder (the one that contains workspace.mel). Then re-open the rig.

The reason for this is that Maya is looking for the textures in project/sourceimages, so if the current project is not a folder that contains the sourceimages folder that contains the rig’s textures, it won’t find anything. If by chance you’ve copied the rig into another project, it should be fine to just copy the contents of the rig’s sourceimages folder into the sourceimages folder of the project you are working in.

Specifically for Arc the Dragon, if the above solutions don’t work, try deleting the dragonMisc_dontTouch object in the root of the outliner, saving, and re-opening. Applying textures through the picker may work too.

Where can I access the picker?

Most of my rigs include a picker file ending in .mgpkr. You can find it in the picker folder. You’ll need to download MG Picker and use it to open this file. If you still can’t get the picker to work, please contact the creators of MG Picker.

Why aren’t the picker buttons working?

If the picker opens but the buttons aren’t doing anything, you probably have to set the namespace. Click the N in the top-right corner of MG Picker. If using a referenced rig, click any control on the rig, then click the < to load it in, and then Set. If using an opened/imported rig, clear the field manually and hit Set.

The rig crashes every few minutes. Is there a way to fix this?

It’s hard to pin down exactly why rigs sometimes crash, but for my “classic” rigs it usually happens more in Parallel Evaluation over DG. If you are experiencing a lot of crashes with those characters, I recommend switching to DG (Preferences > Animation > Evaluation Mode). The rig will be slower in this mode, but also more stable. Newer releases of Maya become more stable at handling rigs through Parallel (unless it’s a brand new Maya release), so it might be worth it to try upgrading your Maya install to a more recent release. Either way, please let us know if you encounter frequent crashes with any of our products on the Support page.

The rig seems broken. What should I do?

Make sure your Maya install is up to date with the latest patches, and within the approved versions of each product.

If you are animating directly on the rig, I recommend using Studio Library to transfer your animation onto a referenced version of the rig and see if anything changes. It’s easy to accidentally break a rig when animating an an opened or imported rig. Always reference!

Parts of the rig are scaling when I rotate controls. What should I do?

Check to see if you’ve non-uniformly scaled any controls that are above the issue part in the hierarchy. Check if setting all 3 scale attributes to the same value fixes the issue.
